Computer Studies

Department Philosophy

Computer studies courses present technology as both a means to an end and an end in itself. That is, some courses introduce students to skills they will use in other disciplines, while others explore the evolving fields of computer science, Web design, and new media. As students learn to use computers to support their academic and creative endeavors, they find new approaches to critical thinking, problem solving, research, communication, and creative expression.

Given the challenge in teaching a subject that, by definition, changes every moment, computer studies teachers constantly revise their courses to explore new technologies. Our faculty are not afraid to try new things, and encourage their students to do the same. Outside of their regular courses, faculty encourage students to explore emerging technology of the field on their own, through independent study, internships, and senior projects.
