The Value of a Boarding/Day School

Families choose boarding schools because they offer abundant opportunities that are not available at home, accepting the sacrifice of temporary family separation to take advantage of the rich opportunities available at the nation’s preeminent independent schools.

Boarders don’t give up all of family life when they come to CA; they enlarge it in our small, family-oriented student houses and with the many day student families who welcome them into their homes. In turn, CA’s boarding program enhances the day student experience by making teachers and advisors more readily available and by expanding international friendships. Our seven-day-a-week, twenty-four-hour-a-day boarding program is an asset for boarding and day students alike.

Concord Academy combines breadth and depth of curricular and artistic offerings with the intimacy of a small school. No one gets lost or forgotten at CA. Our size and a one-to-five resident faculty-to-student ratio are distinct advantages as we work to ensure the healthy and safe development of our students.

All good schools take pride in their special strengths. Concord Academy’s strengths include:

  • a true commitment to socioeconomic diversity
  • a tradition of common trust that teaches respect for people and property
  • a strong bond between boarding and day students
  • a dedicated parent body
  • artistic opportunities that may be unmatched in any college preparatory institution
  • a cutting-edge math and science curriculum
  • a longstanding commitment to technological innovation
  • an athletic program that stresses broad participation and a lifetime awareness of health and fitness
  • an atmosphere of openness, creativity, informality, discipline, and genuine affection that defines us and makes daily life fun and rewarding.

These many attributes of CA distinguish us from other schools and, we hope, make us interesting to you. While dedicated faculty and administrators, outstanding facilities, and strong traditions contribute to making our school an exceptional institution of learning, it is truly the presence of wonderfully able, motivated, exciting, and sensitive young people that make us what we are. We look forward to the prospect of your joining and contributing to our community.

How did your director’s seminar complement your other classes?

Since my freshman year, I have been involved in every aspect of theater I could find, but never really directing. Director’s Seminar gave me the opportunity to synthesize everything that I had learned at CA. All of my papers, classes, performances, games, and interests influenced me as a director, and, in some way, contributed to my show. Director’s Seminar was the perfect climax to my experience in theater here. Senior year was my second in a row in which one of my major courses was a higher-level theater class, and I would not have had it any other way.
