Every June, Concord Academy alumnae/i return to campus to reconnect and reminisce with classmates, and to participate in events and activities including panel discussions, mini classes taught by CA alumnae/i and faculty, special speakers, retrospective panels, the presentation of the Joan Shaw Herman Award for Distinguished Service and the ever popular Art & Author Exhibit. Many alumnae/i take advantage of the opportunity to spend the weekend living in the student residences. Saturday night class dinner parties are the highlight of this festive weekend.

Joan Shaw Herman Award for Distinguished Service

Anne Gaud Tinker '63

Each year during Reunion Weekend, the Concord Academy Alumnae/i Association presents the Joan Shaw Herman Award for Distinguished Service in honor of Joan Shaw Herman '46, who devoted her life to helping others. The existence of the Joan Shaw Herman Award, in a community that does not bestow any other award, is testament to a common value shared by the Concord Academy community. This year the committee is has chosen Anne Gaud Tinker '63 to receive the award because she has has been a consistent voice for the disadvantaged, having spent over three decades working tirelessly to improve health and living conditions for women in the poorest countries around the world. Anne recently retired from her position as director of the Saving Newborn Lives Initiative, jointly developed by Save the Children and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where she supported advocacy, action research, and field programs to reduce newborn and maternal mortality in 18 developing countries. Anne's many admirable personal traits—inner strength, confidence, commitment, self-effacing manner—are qualities that the Joan Shaw Herman Award was created to celebrate.

Alumnae/i Art & Author Exhibit

The annual Art and Author Exhibit is an interesting and engaging Reunion Weekend tradition that showcases artwork by CA alumnae/i—both professional and amateur—who return to campus to celebrate a CA reunion.  In recent years, over forty alumnae/i have participated in the exhibit, which has featured creative endeavors in multiple mediums including watercolor, oil, pastel, acrylic, gouache, mixed media, collage, photography, drawings, sculpture, quilting, film, video, books, articles, journals, and poetry.
